It is important that students feel comfortable in the classroom. Student’s that cannot focus on class assignments, because of poor arrangement of physical location, will be unable to produce quality work. Our responsibility as teachers is to provide our students with a safe learning environment. This includes preventing both physical and emotional distress. With the establishment of clear and precise expectations, students will be able to perform to expectation.

- At the beginning of the school year, we will as a class, development classroom rules that each student is comfortable with.
- These rules will include:
- Procedure for leaving the classroom
- Asking for permission
- Responding to class discussion
- Raising of hand
- Treatment of each other with respect and concern

- Instructor and classmates will get to know each other by name
- Students will be assigned seats
- Class discussion will include
- Getting to know the students interests and culture
- Students will be treated fairly in order to promote opportunity to learn
- All students will be expected to complete assignments in a timely fashion
- A syllabus will be provided to the student at the beginning of the school year that explains the expectation for:
- Assignment completion
- Attendance
- During class, a random method of calling on students will be used

- Students needing additional help from the teacher will receive this on a one-to-one basis
- All students will be expected to complete assignments in a timely fashion
- During instruction, real life situations will be incorporated as much as possible into the lesson

- Students will be given adequate time to answer thoughtfully to questions posed during class sessions
- The teacher will demonstrate to students that their opinions matter.
- Bullying will not be tolerated
- All students should demonstrate supportive and positive comments toward one another
- Students will be encourage to offer differing opinions in a manner that does not make a student feel uncomfortable
- Assignments will receive feedback to influence confidence in their performance
- Recognition will be made to increased performance and attitude of students in addition to high grades
- Routine will be established for classroom tasks
- Agenda for the daily lesson will be posted for students to know what the daily expectations are
- Timeframes will be set for the amount of time between tasks
- Classroom materials will have assigned placement to reduce clutter and clean up time
- Behavior expectations will be outlined in the class syllabus
- Lesson Plans will be created so that students know what is being learned and how to prepare for each lesson
- Lessons will promote active learning
- Classroom will be arranged so that students are able to interact with both the teacher and each other
- An established format will be created so that students will know how to arrange individual desks for group / pair work
- Personal items will be stored in a location that prevents safety hazard
